Non-Toxic Nails

In honor of April being Earth Month, the Stylist Handbook has selected nail polish brands that both your nails and the environment will love. The biggest misconception of non-toxic nail polish was that the pigmentation is not as intense as regular polish and that it would chip more. I'll admit, I'm one of those girls that needs to have their nails painted all the time. But in the process of keeping my nails freshly painted, the overwhelming smell makes people around me leave the room. In an effort to help Mother Nature and my husband (he hates the smell) I opted to use the nail polish shown above. There are many brands out there that are now non-toxic, no only is it all natural but it's also great for expecting women.

1. Butter London - This is the most recognized brand that is non-toxic in the market. The brand has been a major player backstage at New York Fashion Week creating looks for designers such as: Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson and Victoria Beckham. This brand isn't only non-toxic its also free of the formaldehyde, toluene and parabens. The pigments are extra rich and doesn't chip easily.

2. Scotch Naturals - This Eco friendly nail polish provides the vibrant pigment of regular name brand nail polish without all the extra chemicals. This product is 100% free of phthalates, paraben, solvents and heavy metals. It's vegan, cruelty free, fragrance free and biodegradable. Scotch also makes a soy nail polish remover that not only removes water-based nail polish but also solvent-based polish safely and naturally.

3. Zoya - When coming across this nail polish, it seemed very familiar. Then I remembered seeing this product at Target but never once thought that it was an Eco-friendly nail polish. Non-toxic and free of harmful chemicals it also has over 300 different shades. My favorite has to be the new Pixie Dust collection. Also since this product is being distributed at Target it's more accessible to the consumer.

4. Deborah Lippman -  Formaldehyde, and animal cruelty free, the Deborah Lippman collection offers more than just nail polish. She also offers lip color, skin treatments for hands and feet, as well as celebrity inspired nail shades. From Narciso Rodriguez to Sarah Jessica Parker different celebrities and designers have worked together with Deborah Lippman to put out colors that uniquely represent them.

All these brands are very different but one thing they have in common is that they are all Eco-friendly, non-toxic and good for Mother Nature. Hope you ladies are having a wonderful Earth Month!
