Dance at the Met, Best Dressed
Written by Devon Poer
Ever wonder how the whole process works for a celeb or fashion model getting dressed for an event like the Met's Costume Gala. Well to give you some insider info its a dance of publicists, fashion showrooms, stylist and a beauty team. For obvious reasons actresses who are the face of a current campaign for a designer wear the designers and accompany them to the event.
Here are my favorites and why...
Modern Classic
Jessica Alba in Sophie Teallet for Gap with House of Lavande jewels and a Ferragamo clutch.
-Everything about Jessica's look is perfectly styled to the choice of jewels and clutch. All compliment in color, shape and size. The color of the gown is beautiful on her skin tone and pleasing for the backdrop. Don't forget you have to remember that the background can make the photo and the look that much better. Work the surrounding to your advantage. I mean why wouldn't you.
Zoe Saldana and Diane Kruger in Calvin Klein Collection with Fred Leighton jewels.
-Only a Calvin Klein design could cover you in fabric from head to toe and it be amazingly sexy. Slick back hair and minimal jewels gives a nice clean sexy finished look.
Kerry Washington in Thakoon for Gap with Tasaki by Thakoon jewels and Christiab Louboutin clutch and shoes
-If your going to wear red to a red carpet event here is how you do it. By showing just enough skin in a asymmetrical manner Kerry pulls off this piece beautifully, the texture in the fabric helps her stand out more against the red carpet but her gold accessories are what really complete the look.
Emma Watson in Burberry
-Young, beautiful and simple. Just love it.
Modern Vintage
Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schouler with Fred Leighton jewels.
-I love how modern but vintage inspired this piece is, its not a typical met gown but the type of risk a real fashion forward lady takes when attending the gala. Thanks to Chloe's long legs she is able to pull of the cross ankle strap shoes too.
Liu Wen in Naeem Khan with VBH jewels and Brian Atwood shoes
-This piece is young, modern and fresh with an 80's glam that looks stunning on Liu's olive skin. Her choice of accessories is the perfect edgy pairing. Fashion toast this has your name written all over it.
Amber Valletta in RM by Roland Mouret with Tiffany & Co. jewels and a Roger Vivier Clutch
-Amber can do no wrong, where she gets her sense of style from is priceless. Such a bold and beautiful color for the red carpet, she is like a breathe of fresh air that just walked thru the door. Well done!
Definitely lots of ladies wearing long sleeves, one shoulders, and deeeeep v necklines. Check out more photos on STYLE.com
Fire your Stylist...
Maggie Gyllenhaal in Louis Vuitton
-This dress just makes me sad looking at it
Kristen Bell in Diane von Furstenberg
-Key word is color, if this dress was in a different color and not this mineral looking stone it would have worked, the accessory are just depressing too.
Elizabeth Bank in Gucci with Canturi jewels
-Lose the tights and I feel like this dress is way too fall last season
Thandie Newton with Solange Azagury-Patridge jewels
-Take like three feet off the dress from the bottom and maybe it might have passed for edgy and artistic.
Why gold and silver lame as a gown is a good idea I will never know. Its not the best draping fabric or does it photography well in a red carpet setting. Editorially lame rocks but red carpet is a challenge that I would recommend you talk your client out of.
Demi Moore in Lanvin with Casadei shoes
Chanel Iman in Michael Kors with David Yurman jewels and Michael Kors shoes
